A new challenge: saving lives tomorrow
Our #healthcare systems are under a lot of pressure normally. This was the case prior to the “slow snow storm” of #COVID19.
“Hallway medicine” in Ontario, for example, is not a mere hyperbole. For years, our amazing #physicians, #nurses and the entire #healthcare provider community have been fighting tooth and nail to provide the care their patients deserve.
And they themselves deserve better too. Stress, #burnout, and #MoralInjury have been hurting medical communicates across the globe with rampant suicides and mental health issues among staff.
And we all well knew we were never ready for a pandemic of this scale and speed. This was warned about by many from Bill Gates to hospital leaders from coast to coast.
And here we are.
Shortages will be certain. They have already crippled many systems like those in Italy and Iran where #coronavirus death is on rapid rise.
I have been humbled and amazed by the spirit of generosity during these hard times. And by the desire to help, to reduce the pain of others. And this call is one such initiative. It will save patients’ lives and reduce the stress and pressure on our providers’ shoulders.
We need YOU to design a simple, maintainable, easy-to-manufacture ventilator to provide life support to COVID patients anywhere in the world. Prize: $200,000 and the honor to save thousand of human lives.
